This issue 11 of the online magazine “Revista de Economia Social – Leituras & Debates” celebrates the passage of the tenth edition of a magazine dealing with the issues of social economy, aiming to start its process of internationalisation by presenting a bilingual Portuguese/English version. We have reissued a selection of works published in the previous 10 issues in order to reach the widest possible range of matters and authors. Issued in the Christmas season of 2020, a time crossed by all the challenges caused by the covid-19 pandemic, it is a sign of hope that we wish to send to continue, preserving the diversity of points of view, the task of building a new economy, where people come first, valuing the values of freedom and democracy.
A magazine dealing with the multifaceted reality of social economy, in Portugal, would always be a complex project were it to adopt an academic nature. That was the initial idea, shared with the late Professor Jorge Sá, which never came to fruition. For that much, it would need to be headquartered in the academia and have the resources, human and financial, as well as the convergence of wills to ensure, from the start, the scientific prestige that this type of publication demands.
After a time of hesitation, a decision was made to create, within CASES’ attributions, this online magazine, whose production and publicising depend exclusively on its responsibility, with reduced costs, whose usefulness depends on the quality of the works published, a reality inextricably linked to its authors’ academic prestige and experience in practical management. This is what we have tried to achieve with the invaluable collaboration of the guests, never denied. We may go further in the configuration of a bolder publication project, with a format suitable for our times, provided that, throughout 2021, we are able, do not lack resources or the will and availability of all who are dedicated to structured reflection on the major issues of social economy, to launch a debate with this purpose in the academic environment, but also among the leaders and technicians of social economy entities with responsibilities in the management of their activities that are constantly confronted with new challenges that they aspire to overcome.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2021.
